The Ogunsua of Modakeke, Oba Joseph Olu Toriola, has suspended the planned installation of Mrs Saaratu Saminu as the new Iyaloja (market leader) of Modakeke following a court order restraining further action on the matter.
The suspension came after an Ibadan High Court, under Suit No. I/B05/2025, issued an order stopping the ceremony earlier scheduled for the weekend.
The development is the latest twist in the lingering leadership tussle that followed the removal of the former Iyaloja, Alhaja Khadijat Ibraheem Araokanmi — a controversy that has caused division among market stakeholders in the town.
In a statement signed by the Palace Secretary, Chief Moshood Oni, the Ogunsua Palace said it has officially withdrawn from all processes relating to the disputed installation, pending the court’s final decision.
“The palace hereby distances itself from any activities connected with the purported installation of Mrs Saaratu Saminu as Iyaloja of Modakeke. All parties are advised to respect the rule of law and maintain peace,” the statement read in part.
Copies of the directive were distributed to major market leaders, including Chief Olumuyiwa Odebode (Parakoyi), Chief Moshood Olagoke (Babaloja), and Mr. Tunde Adebayo (Market Secretary), to ensure total compliance.
The suspension has doused tension in the community, as residents and traders await further court pronouncements on the leadership dispute.
