Edu Leaders Drum Support as Makama Lafiagi Joins 2027 Kwara Governorship Race

Stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Edu Local Government Area of Kwara State have thrown their weight behind the governorship ambition of Alhaji Tajudeen Audu, popularly known as Makama Lafiagi, as he formally declared interest to contest the 2027 election.

The declaration, which took place at his Ilorin residence, attracted top APC figures, including elected officials, political appointees, and community leaders.

In a statement obtained by Patriotic Insights News on Monday, Makama Lafiagi said his decision to run stemmed from his desire to consolidate the gains of the AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq administration and to deepen inclusive governance across the state.

He lauded Governor AbdulRazaq, CON, for his developmental initiatives and firm handling of security challenges, describing his leadership as “a model of responsible governance.”

The former banker and public servant urged APC members to close ranks, emphasizing that unity and collaboration remain the pillars of sustainable development. He also charged stakeholders to intensify voter sensitization and registration efforts ahead of the 2027 polls, stressing that grassroots mobilization will be key to APC’s continued dominance in the state.

His declaration drew overwhelming support from Edu stakeholders, who described Makama Lafiagi as a man of integrity, intellect, and loyalty to the party.

Among the dignitaries at the meeting were Hon. Abdullahi Bello Ndamangoro, Chairman of Edu Local Government; Prof. Jibril Saba, Secretary to the State Government; Hon. Shehu Ndanusa Usman, Commissioner for Youth Development; and Hon. Saba Yisa Gideon, Member representing Edu in the Kwara State House of Assembly.

Also present were Hon. Yakubu, Registrar, Kwara State College of Education, Ilorin; Alhaji Kudu Dumagi, Edu APC Chairman; Hon. Haruna Likpata, Local Government Development Officer; and traditional rulers including Nda Zhitsu Manuga, Village Head of Manuga.

Women and youth representatives from across the emirates were equally in attendance.

The stakeholders reaffirmed their commitment to work collectively toward Makama Lafiagi’s victory, promising massive grassroots mobilization for the APC ahead of the 2027 governorship election.
