Osun APC Berates Adeleke Over Comments On Tinubu, LG Funds

• Party says FG deserves credit for state’s gains in education, health

The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has cautioned Governor Ademola Adeleke against what it described as his “habitual attacks” on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu over local government and governance issues in the state.

The party accused Adeleke of attempting to shift blame for his administration’s shortcomings to the Federal Government, insisting that the governor is the architect of his political misfortunes.

In a statement signed by its Director of Media and Information, Mogaji Kola Olabisi, the APC faulted Adeleke’s remarks at a two-day South-West stakeholders’ dialogue organised by the Development Agenda for Western Nigeria (DAWN) Commission in Akure, Ondo State.

During the event, Adeleke alleged that the Federal Government had withheld Osun’s local government allocations despite a subsisting court order and accused President Tinubu of marginalising the state in federal affairs.

But the APC said Adeleke’s accusations were baseless and “a deliberate attempt to malign the President for his own administrative failures.”

The statement read: “It is quite disheartening how Governor Adeleke keeps disparaging the name of the President. Was it because President Tinubu refused to bend the rules of law over the local government allocations which the Court of Appeal ruled should be given to the APC-led council chairmen and councillors?

“Or is it because the President declined Adeleke’s alleged backdoor defection to the APC in order not to contaminate the party with his lack of discipline and poor governance?”

The party further listed several federal interventions in Osun’s education and health sectors under the Tinubu administration, noting that the state had benefited immensely from TETFUND, UBEC, and other federal agencies.

According to the APC, the Tinubu government has spent over N10 billion on education and health programmes in the state and provided facilities such as laboratories, lecture theatres, and streetlights across tertiary institutions.

It added that the Federal Government also supported the Osun Health Insurance Scheme (OHIS) with about N3 billion in grants.

The statement questioned Adeleke’s claims of marginalisation, saying: “Was there any time Osun State was excluded from federal allocations? In 2024, the state received N229 billion — a 131 percent increase from its initial estimate of N99 billion.”

The APC also faulted Adeleke’s management of state resources, accusing him of prioritising luxury spending over governance.

“A governor who forces parents to pay as much as N1.5 million per session in state-owned universities while spending N13 billion on luxury vehicles for politicians should not blame anyone for the hopeless state of governance,” the statement said.

The party urged Adeleke to “own up to his failures” instead of blaming President Tinubu for his administration’s inefficiency.

“Rather than trading blame, Governor Adeleke should focus on governance and deliver the dividends of democracy to the people of Osun,” the APC concluded.
