Tinubu Confers New Ranks on Service Chiefs

President Bola Tinubu on Thursday conferred new ranks on the nation’s service chiefs at a brief but symbolic ceremony held inside the Council Chambers of the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

Those decorated were General Olufemi Oluyede, Chief of Defence Staff; Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, Chief of Army Staff; Vice Admiral Idi Abass, Chief of Naval Staff; Air Marshal Kevin Aneke, Chief of Air Staff; and Major General Emmanuel Undiendeye, Chief of Defence Intelligence.

The President performed the investiture in the presence of top government officials and senior security officers, assisted by the spouses of the newly promoted commanders.

Vice President Kashim Shettima; Senate President Godswill Akpabio; and Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, led other dignitaries at the ceremony.

Also in attendance were Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin; Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume; Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila; and Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Didi Walson-Jack.

Others included National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu; Minister of Defence, Mohammed Badaru; Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris; Kwara State Governor and Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq; and the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun.

Heads of other security and intelligence agencies — including the Department of State Services (DSS), National Intelligence Agency (NIA), Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), and National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) — were also present.

The decoration followed the confirmation of the nominees by the National Assembly after President Tinubu sought prompt approval to enable the new military chiefs to formally assume duty.

The event signified a formal transition of command within the nation’s armed forces and underscored the administration’s renewed commitment to strengthening national defence and security coordination.
