Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, on Thursday appeared before the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) screening committee at the party’s Legacy House, Abuja, as part of preparations for the 2026 governorship election in the state.
Adeleke, who is seeking the party’s ticket for a second term in office, arrived at the venue in the company of top PDP leaders, including the South-West Vice Chairman, Hon. Kamarudeen Ajisafe; Osun PDP Chairman, Hon. Sunday Bisi; Secretary to the State Government, Hon. Teslim Igbalaye; Commissioner for Special Duties, Dr. B.T. Salami; and Commissioner for Commerce, Rev. Bunmi Jenyo. Also present were some members of the National Assembly from the state.
After the closed-door exercise, the governor told reporters that the PDP in Osun remained united and fully prepared to retain power in the 2026 polls.
“We have delivered good governance to our people in Osun. Our records and popularity are unrivalled. So, we are ready for victory come 2026,” Adeleke said confidently.
He expressed optimism that the forthcoming election would be a model of transparency, adding that he trusted the Federal Government to ensure a free and fair process.
“Our popularity is known nationally due to our excellent records of performance within less than three years in office. We are confident the will of the people will prevail in the best interest of democracy,” he said.
In a statement issued after the screening, the governor’s spokesperson, Mallam Olawale Rasheed, reaffirmed Adeleke’s commitment to consolidating his administration’s achievements if re-elected.
“Governor Adeleke has shown that governance can be people-centred and result-driven. His screening today marks another milestone in his re-election journey, and the PDP is fully united behind him,” Rasheed stated.
The screening of aspirants is part of the PDP’s internal process ahead of the 2026 governorship contest, expected to be a keenly fought race among the ruling PDP, the All Progressives Congress (APC), and the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
