The Parliamentary Staff Association of Nigeria (PASAN), Ondo State chapter, has suspended its planned strike following the swift intervention of Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa.
The association had issued a seven-day ultimatum demanding the implementation of the Consolidated Legislative Salary Structure (CONLESS) for its members. The ultimatum expired on Monday.
Speaking with newsmen in Akure, PASAN State Chairperson, Mrs. Hellen Olorunfemi, expressed gratitude to the governor for approving the request, describing it as a major relief for parliamentary staff in the state.
“We tabled our demands before the governor, and to the glory of God, he granted instant approval. He directed the Head of Service and all relevant officers to immediately prepare the implementation schedule so the process can commence without delay,” Olorunfemi said.
She noted that Ondo had been the only South-West state yet to implement CONLESS, explaining the rationale behind the proposed strike. “Lagos and other states have long implemented this structure. We are glad that Ondo State is finally joining,” she added.
Olorunfemi also commended the Speaker of the Ondo State House of Assembly, Chief Olamide Oladiji, for his support throughout the negotiations. She lauded the collaborative efforts of both the executive and legislative arms of government in ensuring a peaceful resolution.
“With the governor’s directive already being implemented by the Accountant General’s office, PASAN has officially suspended the planned strike,” she stated.
