JAMB Debunks Claims of Removal from Admission Process

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has dismissed reports suggesting that it has been scrapped or excluded from the nation’s tertiary admission process.

In a statement signed by its Head of Public Affairs and Protocol, Dr. Fabian Benjamin, the examination body described the report as “false, malicious, and preposterous,” urging Nigerians to disregard it in its entirety.

JAMB clarified that the Minister of Education, Dr. Mauruf Alausa, never made any pronouncement indicating that the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) would no longer be required for admission into Nigerian higher institutions.

According to the statement, the misleading publication stemmed from a misrepresentation of the Federal Government’s policy document titled “Renewed Hope in Action: Federal Government Streamlines Admission Requirements to Expand Access to Tertiary Education.”

Dr. Benjamin explained that the policy was aimed at widening access to higher education, not abolishing JAMB’s statutory role.

“We wish to categorically state that the information is both malicious and baseless. The Honourable Minister of Education, Dr. Mauruf Alausa, has at no time made such pronouncement,” the statement read.

“The referenced statement on streamlining admission requirements is part of the government’s broader efforts to expand access to tertiary education across the country. JAMB remains fully responsible for conducting entry examinations and coordinating admissions in line with its enabling laws.”

The Board reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining the integrity of the admission process, warning the public against misinformation spread by unverified online platforms.

JAMB urged Nigerians to rely on its official channels for authentic updates, stressing that its mandate in regulating entry into tertiary institutions remains intact.
