Court Fixes November Date for Osun LG Tenure Dispute Hearing

OSOGBO – The Federal High Court sitting in Osogbo, Osun State, on Monday, October 13, 2025, adjourned the hearing in a suit filed by reinstated All Progressives Congress (APC) Chairmen and Councillors seeking legal clarity on the tenure of their offices.

The case, which also challenges the validity of Local Government elections allegedly conducted in February 2025 by Governor Ademola Adeleke, is now slated for November 27, 2025.

The claimants, in suit No. FHC/OS/CS/147/2025 — Onibonokuta Saheed & 7 Ors v AGF & 6 Ors — are asking the court to determine whether their tenure should run for three years from February 2025 and whether the Osun State Independent Electoral Commission (OSSIEC) could lawfully hold elections on February 22, 2025, during the subsistence of their tenure.

The Osun Local Government administration has been mired in legal disputes since the Court of Appeal reinstated the APC-elected Chairmen and Councillors on February 10, 2025, sparking public debate and litigation across the state.

At Monday’s hearing, Barrister Muhydeen Adeoye, counsel for the claimants, filed a motion seeking to restrain the defendants from interfering with his clients’ offices pending the determination of the suit.

However, counsels representing the defendants argued that they were still within the period allowed to respond to the main summons. Presiding Judge, Justice Adefunmilola Demi-Ajayi, noted that service of the court process was not yet complete and directed that all parties be properly served before the next hearing.

Justice Demi-Ajayi assured parties of an expeditious determination of the matter and adjourned the case to November 27, 2025, for substantive hearing.
