Bishop Urges Abdulrazaq to Address Pensioners’ Welfare, Bad Roads in Kwara

…Calls for compassionate governance, better infrastructure in Kwara South

The Archbishop of Kwara Anglican Province, Most Rev. Israel Amoo, has urged Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq to address the welfare of pensioners and improve infrastructure across the state, particularly in rural areas.

The cleric made the appeal on Saturday during the funeral service of former Kwara State Governor, Chief Cornelius Olatunji Adebayo, held at All Saints’ Anglican Church, Oke-Onigbin, Irepodun Local Government Area.

Delivering his sermon in the presence of the governor and other dignitaries, Bishop Amoo said many retirees who served the state diligently were facing financial hardship due to unpaid entitlements.

“Your Excellency, Mr Governor, pensioners in Kwara State are suffering. They are dying in penury,” he said, noting that several retirees from 2019 to 2025 were yet to receive their gratuities.

He described the situation as unfortunate and appealed to the state government to prioritize the welfare of retired workers.

The Archbishop also drew attention to the poor condition of roads in Oke-Onigbin and other parts of Kwara South, saying the situation had affected local transportation and economic activities.

“The road to this town is in a bad state. I believe your convoy passed through it. Poor roads make it difficult for people to move goods and for security personnel to respond promptly to emergencies,” he said.

Bishop Amoo further called on public office holders to serve with conscience and compassion, reminding them that leadership positions are temporary.

“I pray you live long, Mr Governor,” he said. “Let your actions today speak positively of your legacy in years to come.”

The governor and other dignitaries attended the service alongside family members and well-wishers who gathered to honour the late Adebayo.
