A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abia State, Prince Paul Ikonne, has faulted Governor Alex Otti for what he described as a desperate attempt to use the name of the detained IPOB leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, to gain political attention.
Ikonne, in a statement issued on Saturday in Abuja by his Chief Press Secretary, Ujo Justice, urged the governor to focus on governance and give a proper account of how state funds are being spent.
He accused Otti of using national issues to divert public attention from what he termed his administration’s “underperformance and questionable financial dealings.”
“It is unfortunate that rather than account for how public funds are utilised, Governor Otti has chosen to play politics with the emotions of Abians by dragging Nnamdi Kanu’s name into his failing government narrative,” Ikonne said.
The APC chieftain questioned the whereabouts of the ₦54 billion “Smart School” project and the ₦6 billion “Recreational Centre,” which he claimed were yet to be located or verified.
“If these projects truly exist, the governor should show their exact locations and invite the media for inspection. Why were they not part of his recent project inaugurations?” he asked.
Ikonne also accused Otti of hypocrisy, noting that the governor had shown little concern about Kanu’s plight for over two years in office but suddenly remembered him amid growing criticism of his government.
Governor Otti had recently expressed optimism that Nnamdi Kanu, who was rearrested in Kenya in 2021, would soon regain freedom.
