Tinubu Seeks Senate Approval for Key Appointments Across Federal Agencies

President Bola Tinubu has forwarded a series of executive communications to the National Assembly, requesting confirmation of critical appointments across several federal agencies.

Senate President Godswill Akpabio read the letters during Wednesday’s plenary session, highlighting the president’s request for the confirmation of nine nominees to the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC).

The nominees include Idris Olorunnimbe as chairman; Aminu Maida as executive vice-chairman and CEO; Abraham Oshidami as executive commissioner for technical services; and Rimini Makama as executive commissioner for stakeholder management. Others are Maryam Bayi (commissioner for human capital and administration), Abdulwahab Lawal, Lekan Mustafa, Chris Okorie, and Oforitsenere Emiko, all as commissioners.

The nominations were referred to the Senate Committee on Communications, which has been given a two-week deadline to report back.

In addition, Tinubu requested the confirmation of Idahagbon Williams Omoregie from Edo State, seeking a second term, and Ngbea Gabriel from Benue State, both as commissioners of the Federal Civil Service Commission. These were referred to the Senate Committee on Establishment, with a one-week timeline for its report.

The president also nominated Musa Babayo as chairman of the Federal Roads Maintenance Agency (FERMA) and Aminu Yusuf as chairman of the National Population Commission (NPC). Yusuf’s nomination was sent to the Senate Committee on NPC, which has one week to conclude its review.

Furthermore, Tinubu proposed Adeniran Raymond Tella as Resident Electoral Commissioner for Oyo State. The Senate Committee on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has been tasked to expedite the confirmation within a week.

The president also forwarded the name of Keji Onwu as an independent director on the board of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation (NDIC). This nomination was referred to the Senate Committee on Banking, Insurance, and Other Financial Institutions for consideration within one week.

Earlier, Tinubu had written to the Senate seeking confirmation of management appointees for the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC), Unclaimed Funds Trust Fund, and the Revenue Mobilisation, Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC).
