Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State has charged traditional rulers, especially those in border communities, to remain alert and report any suspicious movements or strange settlers in their areas to security agencies to prevent infiltration by bandits.
According to a statement signed by the governor’s spokesperson, Mallam Olawale Rasheed, Adeleke made the call after a meeting of the State Security Council in Osogbo, where security measures were reviewed to keep the state safe amid rising insecurity in neighbouring states.
The governor emphasized that Osun remains one of the most peaceful states in Nigeria and that his administration is determined to sustain that record through proactive intelligence and strong community partnership.
“Osun is one of the most peaceful states in Nigeria, and we are determined to sustain that record. We must watch our borders closely and ensure bandits are not allowed to infiltrate our state,” the statement quoted the governor as saying.
Adeleke expressed satisfaction with the strategies adopted by the Security Council to strengthen border surveillance and commended security agencies for their cooperation with local communities.
He also praised the Agbooro community in Ikirun and the Akinrun-in-Council for their swift intervention in ensuring that a group of Bororo settlers who recently occupied parts of their community vacated peacefully.
“I commend the security agencies and the Akinrun-in-Council for acting promptly to resolve the matter. Our border towns should emulate this example and work closely with the security agencies,” he said.
Meanwhile, Governor Adeleke condemned the reported attack on the Corps Commander of the Osun Amotekun Security Network, Mr. Isaac Omoyele, describing the incident as “disturbing and unacceptable.”
He called on the police to conduct a thorough investigation into the matter and ensure the perpetrators are apprehended and brought to justice.
“Such an attack on a security officer is a direct assault on the peace and stability of our state. The culprits must be tracked and prosecuted without delay,” the governor stated.
The statement reaffirmed the governor’s commitment to maintaining peace and protecting the lives and property of residents across Osun State.
