Governor Ademola Adeleke has ordered a full-scale investigation into the recent killings in Akinlalu involving the Amotekun security outfit and has dispatched a high-powered government delegation to the town.
A statement by the governor’s spokesperson, Mallam Olawale Rasheed, said Adeleke expressed deep shock over the deaths following a preliminary report from his Special Adviser on Security Matters. The governor also commiserated with the families of the victims, praying for divine comfort.
Further briefings were provided to the Deputy Governor by the state security team, while a State Security Council meeting has been scheduled for Monday to deliberate on the incident and other emerging security threats in Osun State.
Governor Adeleke directed that the government delegation, which includes the Special Adviser on Security Matters, the Commissioners for Information, Political Affairs and Transportation, the Attorney General, Special Adviser on Legal Matters, and service chiefs of the various security agencies, visit Akinlalu after the council meeting.
The governor reiterated his commitment to the rule of law, stressing that any breach would be dealt with within legal confines. “I urge the good people of Akinlalu to remain calm as our government investigates this matter. I share in their pain, but I assure them that justice will be pursued,” Adeleke said.
