Kidnappers Strike Again: Kwara Governor Promises Tough Action Amid Security Gaps
Kwara State Governor, Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, on Thursday visited Oke-Ode in Ifelodun Local Government Area following a deadly armed attack that claimed 12 lives, including the Baale of Ogba-Ayo, and left several others abducted.
The attack, which has sparked outrage across the state, exposed serious security lapses in vulnerable rural communities, raising urgent questions about the effectiveness of current protective measures.
Governor Abdulrazaq, accompanied by top security officials including Commissioner of Police Adekimi Ojo, NSCDC Commandant Dr. Umar Mohammed, and the State DSS Director, condoled with victims’ families and commended security operatives, vigilantes, and forest guards for their response.
A statement by his spokesperson, Rafiu Ajakaye, said the governor extended condolences and solidarity to affected communities across Ifelodun, Irepodun, Isin, Ekiti, Edu, and Patigi LGAs, and assured that all necessary measures were being implemented to restore peace.
During the visit, the governor was briefed by community leaders, including National President of Oke-Ode Development Association, Alhaji Abdulganiyu Ajala, Elder Oyin Zubair, and youth representatives.
While the visit demonstrates the administration’s commitment to combating insecurity, analysts warn that symbolic gestures alone will not prevent further attacks, urging the government to strengthen intelligence gathering, rapid response teams, and rural security frameworks.
Governor Abdulrazaq vowed intensified operations against kidnappers, promising that future incidents would be decisively curtailed to safeguard lives and property across Kwara State.
