Kano Gov Seeks Police Commissioner’s Removal, Accuses Him of Sabotage
Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, on Wednesday called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to immediately remove the state Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, accusing him of insubordination and undermining constituted authority.
Governor Yusuf made the demand while speaking at an event to mark Nigeria’s 65th Independence Anniversary held at the Kofar Mata Stadium in Kano.
The governor alleged that officers under Bakori’s command deliberately withdrew security from the ceremony despite explicit directives he personally issued to the commissioner.
“The Commissioner of Police has embarrassed us by his conduct,” Yusuf said. “His action is unprofessional, unethical, and contrary to what is expected of a security chief on such a historic day for the people of Kano and Nigeria as a whole.”
Yusuf maintained that Bakori’s alleged conduct was not only unacceptable but also dangerous to the effective coordination of security in the state.
“On behalf of myself as Chief Security Officer, and on behalf of the good people of Kano State, I call on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to remove CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori today,” the governor declared.
The governor’s outburst comes amid heightened political tension in the state and growing concerns about strained relations between the state government and federal security agencies.
