LeBron James hints at Imminent retirement

LeBron James hints at imminent retirement

Basketball icon LeBron James has admitted his career is closer to its end as he prepares for his 23rd NBA season.

James, who turns 41 in December, said he is determined to savour every moment left in a glittering career that has spanned three decades.

The NBA’s all-time leading scorer averaged 24.4 points per game last season and remains the oldest active player in the league.

“I’m excited about the opportunity to play the game I love for another season,” James told reporters. “However the journey plays out this year, I’m super-invested because I don’t know when the end is. I know it’s a lot sooner than later.”

The four-time NBA champion and 21-time All-Star reflected on the rarity of playing at an elite level at his age.

“You look at the history of the game; there have not been many guys at my age, especially going into year 23, who have been able to play at a high level. I just try not to take it for granted and give the game as much as I can.”

James, who now shares the court with his eldest son Bronny on the Lakers’ roster, dismissed speculation that he is holding on to play alongside his younger son Bryce.

“I’m not waiting on Bryce. He has his own path. We’ll see what happens this year and next year,” he said.

Since entering the NBA in 2003, James has won four championships, four league MVP awards, four Finals MVPs, and three Olympic gold medals. He also claimed the inaugural NBA Cup in 2023 and the Olympics MVP in 2024.

He holds the record for the most minutes played in league history and is tied with Vince Carter for the most seasons played.

James’ comments reinforce speculation that the coming seasons could mark the final chapter of one of basketball’s most decorated careers.
