FG declares October 1 holiday for Nigeria at 65

The Federal Government has declared Wednesday, October 1, 2025, a public holiday to mark Nigeria’s 65th Independence Anniversary.

Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, who announced this on behalf of the government, congratulated Nigerians at home and abroad, describing the anniversary as “a historic occasion.”

In a statement signed by the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Dr. Magdalene Ajani, the Minister said:

“October 1 remains a reminder of our shared heritage, unity and resilience that have sustained us as a people since 1960.”

He urged citizens to uphold the patriotic spirit that has defined the nation’s journey while deepening faith in President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which he said is anchored on national rebirth, economic transformation and collective prosperity.

“With the cooperation of all Nigerians, our country will continue to thrive in peace, progress and development,” Tunji-Ojo said.

The Minister wished all Nigerians a happy and memorable Independence Day celebration.
