Osayande, ex-DIG, bows out at 88
A retired Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG), Parry Benjamin Osemwegie Osayande, has passed on in Benin, Edo State. He died yesterday, just a day before his 89th birthday.
His passing was confirmed by Engr. Ighodalo Edetanlen, President of the Immaculate Conception College Old Boys’ Association (ICCOBA) Worldwide, in a condolence message issued on behalf of the association’s National Executive Committee.
Edetanlen described the late Osayande as an “exemplary old boy” of the Benin-based institution, noting that the association received the news of his death with deep sorrow.
The statement read:
“With total submission to the will of God, ICCOBA Worldwide announces the peaceful transition of our distinguished old boy, DIG Parry Benjamin Osemwegie Osayande (Rtd), earlier today at the age of 88 years. We mourn his passing and call for prayers for the family he left behind.”
Born on September 29, 1936, Osayande was scheduled to clock 89 today (Monday).
The association said details of his burial would be announced later, while praying God to grant him eternal rest.
Osayande had an illustrious career in the Nigeria Police Force, serving as Commissioner of Police in Benue and Cross River States before rising to the position of DIG.
He later chaired the Police Service Commission, where he played a prominent role in law enforcement and police reforms.
