Fubara Shakes Up Pension Sector, Dissolves Rivers State Pensions Board
Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has dissolved the Rivers State Pensions Board with immediate effect. The move was announced on Friday, September 26, 2025, in a statement signed by the Head of Service, Dr. (Mrs.) Inyingi S.I. Brown.
The dissolution affects the board constituted by former Sole Administrator, Vice Admiral Ikot Ibas (rtd). All functions of the Pensions Board will now be managed by the Office of the Accountant General of Rivers State. Members of the board have been directed to hand over all assets and properties under their control to the board’s Director of Administration.
This action forms part of Governor Fubara’s wider agenda to restructure and streamline state agencies following his return to office on September 18, 2025, after the lifting of the six-month emergency rule in the state. The emergency rule, declared in March 2025 by President Bola Tinubu, was aimed at addressing political instability and governance challenges in Rivers State.
The governor’s decision signals a clear commitment to enhancing governance, accountability, and service delivery across state institutions.
