Kwara Approves Free Boarding, Education for Visually Impaired Girls
The Kwara State Government has announced a new education policy granting visually impaired girls free secondary education, boarding, and feeding at Queen Elizabeth Secondary School, Ilorin, in a bid to tackle the challenge of out-of-school children.
The Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, Dr. Lawal Olohungbebe, disclosed this in Ilorin on behalf of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq. He said the initiative underscores government’s commitment to inclusive learning and reducing barriers that hinder disadvantaged children from accessing quality education.
According to him, the new policy is in line with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal Four, which seeks inclusive and equitable education for all.
“This decision is a bold step to guarantee no child is left behind in Kwara. Every child, regardless of physical challenge, deserves quality education and opportunity,” the Governor was quoted as saying.
Press Secretary to the Ministry, Mr. Peter Amogbonjaye, also stressed that the policy would help consolidate human capital development in the state.
“The government recognises the need to prioritise inclusivity in education. By extending free education, feeding, and accommodation to visually impaired girls, we are not only tackling exclusion but also investing in the future of Kwara State,” Amogbonjaye said.
Olohungbebe added that the initiative would expand learning opportunities, reduce inequality, and strengthen social equity across the state.
