Seven Injured in Ogbomoso Truck Collision
At least seven persons were injured yesterday in a head-on collision involving two trucks in the Arinkinkin area of Ogbomoso South Local Government, Oyo State.
The accident, which occurred along the Ogbomoso–Ilorin Road, was said to have been caused by reckless overtaking by one of the drivers. Both trucks were badly damaged, resulting in heavy traffic gridlock.
Chairman of the Oyo State Fire Services Agency, Hon. Moroof Adebayo Akinwande, confirmed the incident, saying the agency received a distress call at about 1:15 p.m. over a fire outbreak triggered by the crash.
“On arrival, we discovered that two trucks, one loaded with maize and the other conveying unidentified chemicals, had collided and caught fire. Our men swiftly contained the blaze and prevented it from spreading to the truck with grains. However, the truck carrying chemicals was severely damaged,” he said.
Officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) rescued seven victims and rushed them to Bowen Teaching Hospital for treatment. Normal traffic flow has since been restored on the busy highway.
Akinwande urged motorists to obey traffic regulations, carry fire extinguishers, and keep emergency contacts handy to forestall avoidable tragedies.
