National Assembly Appoints Emmanuel Odo as Acting Senate Clerk
The National Assembly Service Commission (NASC) has appointed Mr. Emmanuel Odo as the Acting Clerk of the Senate. The decision was taken during the commission’s 10th meeting on Tuesday in Abuja.
Mr. Odo assumes the role following a vacancy in the Senate’s administrative structure. The NASC spokesperson, Emmanuel Anyigor, confirmed the appointment in a statement issued on Tuesday.
The appointment letter, signed by NASC Executive Chairman, Dr. Saviour Enyiekere, stated: “The 6th Commission, at its 10th meeting held on Tuesday, 16th September 2025, approved your appointment as Acting Clerk, Senate in the National Assembly from 16/09/2025, in exercise of its powers as provided under Section 6(b) of the National Assembly Service Act, 2014.”
Dr. Enyiekere said Odo’s elevation was based on his record of diligence and administrative competence, urging him to justify the confidence reposed in him.
Before his new appointment, Odo served as the Deputy Clerk, Senate (Administration). In his new capacity, he will oversee legislative processes, supervise staff, maintain official records, and ensure the proper implementation of lawmakers’ decisions.
The office of the Senate Clerk is pivotal in Nigeria’s legislature, as it maintains institutional memory, upholds parliamentary procedures, and coordinates the day-to-day administration of the upper chamber.
Odo takes up the role as the 10th Senate navigates complex political and oversight responsibilities, placing him at the center of legislative administration.
