2026 in Jeopardy: Famurewa Blasts APC Over Internal Chaos

Osun State’s All Progressives Congress (APC) is facing a storm of internal criticism, with former SUBEB chairman and ex-House of Representatives member, Francis Famurewa, delivering a damning assessment of the party’s management ahead of the 2026 gubernatorial election.

Speaking to APC ward chairmen during a meeting with governorship aspirant Senator Iyiola Omisore, Famurewa accused the party of neglecting grassroots structures and failing to reward loyal members. He warned that without urgent reforms, the APC risks repeating the mistakes that led to its 2022 election defeat.

“Only a fool will keep doing the same thing and expect a different result,” Famurewa said. “We must return the party to its foundation. The ward chairmen are the owners of the APC. Ignoring them will ensure we remain in the opposition.”

He highlighted the post-2022 election review committee led by Professor Isaac Adewole, whose recommendations on restructuring the party and improving its reward system have largely been ignored. “The committee made it clear: restructure the party, reward those who work for it, and give it back to the people who truly own it. Sadly, these recommendations were shelved,” Famurewa lamented.

The former lawmaker urged ward chairmen to rally behind Omisore’s governorship ambition, describing him as the candidate capable of restoring APC’s fortunes. “You are the pillars of this party. We are here to listen to your concerns, and our leader will respond. Access and inclusivity are non-negotiable; the next governor must be reachable to all members,” he emphasized.

Famurewa’s remarks underscore growing anxiety within the APC over internal management, accountability, and the ability to secure victory in the 2026 polls. Party insiders now face pressure to act swiftly, or risk losing ground to rivals in an increasingly competitive political landscape.
