Wike to Transform Abuja with 12 New Roads, Solar Lighting Projects
The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, will this Thursday, September 18, 2025, commission two major roads and flag off construction on 12 new roads across the city, alongside the rollout of solar lighting under the Light Up Abuja programme.
Senior Special Assistant to the FCT Minister on Public Communications and Social Media, Lere Olayinka, said in a statement on Monday that the projects will cover critical districts and expressways, aiming to improve mobility and security in the Federal Capital City (FCC).
The roads slated for commissioning include the newly constructed ILS 11 (Esther Bali Street) and MAR 24 (Kez Udezue Street) in Mabushi District, as well as access roads in Sector Centre B, by Dakibiyu District.
The Light Up Abuja programme will see integrated solar lighting installed across major areas including Maitama, Asokoro, Wuse, the Central Business District, Airport Expressway, Katampe, Garki I & II, Mabushi, Gudu, Jabi, and Katampe Extension.
Other projects to be flagged off include:
Full development of Arterial Road N1 from Wuye to Ring Road II
Northern Parkway from Ring Road II to Ring Road III
Access road to Mabushi Bus Terminal (Cadastral Zone B06)
Arterial N20 (Solomon Lar Way) from Obafemi Awolowo Way to Airport Expressway
Roads to Renewed Hope Cities and Estates in Karsana West
Access road bypassing Airport Second Runway with a four-span bridge
Construction of transit ways, collector roads, and bridges in key districts
Residences for heads of courts, including the President of the Court of Appeal, Chief Judge of the Federal High Court, and Chief Judge of FCT
The Minister had earlier flagged off water supply projects to Bwari and Karu, a multi-purpose sports centre in Kafe District, a new Magistrate Court complex in Jabi, and emergency reconstruction of Karu Road from the interchange to Customs Clinic Junction.
“The projects are aimed at enhancing infrastructure, easing traffic, and improving public amenities across Abuja,” Olayinka said.
The commissioning and flag-off events are scheduled to run from Thursday, September 18 to Thursday, October 16, 2025.
