Bauchi Muslim Parliament backs Buba’s peace initiatives
The Bauchi State Muslim Parliament has thrown its weight behind the peace-building efforts of Senator Shehu Buba, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Security and National Intelligence.
At a press conference in Bauchi, the group expressed total support for the senator’s use of dialogue as a tool for conflict resolution, particularly in northern Nigeria.
Chairman of the Parliament, Engr. Ahmad Yusuf, praised Senator Buba, who represents Bauchi South, for championing non-kinetic strategies in addressing insecurity. He noted that Buba’s initiatives — including frameworks for peaceful coexistence between farmers and herders — align with the organisation’s vision of unity and peaceful coexistence.
Yusuf explained that the senator’s approach, which blends dialogue with economic empowerment, mirrors strategies that helped restore stability in the Niger Delta region.
Another member of the Parliament, Hamza Abubakar, stressed that years of relying solely on armed operations had failed to resolve the Boko Haram crisis. He cited dialogue-based initiatives in Kaduna, which, he said, have yielded positive results.
“Since dialogue has brought peace in some areas, why not support the initiator to extend the same method across the country?” he asked.
The Parliament also condemned what it described as a “smear campaign” against Senator Buba, warning that attempts at character assassination would not derail his contributions to national security.
It urged all stakeholders to join hands in tackling insecurity while appealing to politicians not to exploit national security for political gains.
Senator Buba, an advocate of reconciliation and socio-economic renewal, is currently pursuing a doctorate degree on the drivers of banditry in Zamfara and Kaduna States.
