Ondo Govt Disowns Protesters, Says Fraudsters Issued Fake Teachers’ Recruitment Letters
The Ondo State Government on Friday distanced itself from a protest staged by some individuals who claimed they were denied employment in the recent recruitment of teachers into the state’s primary and secondary schools.
Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Prince Ebenezer Adeniyan, clarified that the protesters were not genuine recruits but victims of fraud perpetrated by scammers during the exercise coordinated by the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB).
According to the government, the affected persons were discovered during biometric verification to have been in possession of fake appointment and posting letters issued to them by fraudsters who collected money in exchange.
“Already, disciplinary action has been taken against three SUBEB insiders alleged to have connived with outsiders to defraud unsuspecting applicants,” the statement read.
Aiyedatiwa assured that the state’s recruitment process had been concluded, with over 2,000 duly employed teachers already deployed and resuming work across primary and secondary schools.
Meanwhile, the Governor has directed SUBEB management to invite the defrauded applicants for a meeting, while a committee has been set up to further investigate the matter.
The government urged members of the public to be wary of fraudulent employment schemes and to always verify official communication through the appropriate channels.
