Aiyedatiwa Flags Off Housing Estate, Vows to Modernise Akure
Ondo State Governor, Dr. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, yesterday reaffirmed his administration’s resolve to transform Akure into a befitting state capital with modern infrastructure, housing, and amenities comparable to the best across the country.
Speaking at the groundbreaking of a 32-unit residential estate for members of the State Executive Council in Alagbaka, Akure, Aiyedatiwa said the project was conceived to address the challenge of inadequate government quarters for top officials.
According to him, the ongoing urban renewal efforts in Alagbaka would be extended to other parts of the capital city as part of his administration’s broader developmental agenda.
“This project is significant as it provides modern terraced buildings with amenities that ensure the safety and comfort of our cabinet members,” he said. “Each unit is well-planned, combining efficiency of space with the security of a gated environment.”
The estate, which will consist of 28 terrace-style homes and four stand-alone units, will also include a gatehouse and utility block for proper maintenance. The governor noted that the project aligns with his OUR EASE agenda, which prioritises welfare, infrastructure, and sustainable development.
While appealing for patience from other arms of government, he assured that similar housing interventions would be extended to the legislature and judiciary, alongside an affordable housing scheme for civil servants.
The Commissioner for Infrastructure, Lands and Housing, Engr. Abiola Olawoye, described the initiative as a demonstration of the administration’s commitment to bridging the state’s infrastructure deficit.
Chief Technical Officer of Cosgrove Investment Ltd., Engr. Baba Kalli, the project contractor, pledged timely and quality delivery, while Hon. Biola Oladapo, Chair of the House Committee on Lands and Housing, hailed the development as a legacy project that would enhance productivity and cohesion.
The Deji of Akure, Oba Aladetoyinbo Ogunlade Aladelusi, commended the governor’s vision, urging him to sustain the momentum of growth in the state capital.
The event was attended by top government functionaries, including Deputy Governor Dr. Olayide Adelami, Speaker of the House of Assembly Rt. Hon. Olamide Oladiji, Secretary to the State Government Dr. Taiwo Fasoranti, and other dignitaries.
