OSUN LG CRISIS: OBAS BEG TINUBU TO RESCUE LOCAL GOVERNMENTS
Traditional rulers across Osun State have urgently called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to step in and resolve the paralysis crippling local government operations.
At a meeting hosted by the Ooni of Ife, Ooni Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, Ojaja II, the Osun Council of Obas said withheld local government allocations have “badly impacted traditional institutions and communities” across the 30 LGAs.
The monarchs warned that inactivity in secretariats, deteriorating markets, and neglected community roads are hitting ordinary citizens hardest, noting that local rulers rely on a five percent deduction from LG allocations to serve their people effectively.
“We are apolitical fathers of the land. Our only concern is a functioning local government that benefits all, especially the vulnerable,” the council stated.
The Obas urged Mr. President to intervene politically or judicially to unblock the stalled funds, stressing that swift action would revive rural communities and empower traditional institutions to complement the federal government’s “Renewed Hope Agenda.” “We appeal to Mr. President to hear the cries of our communities suffering from months of total local government deactivation,” the Ooni said.
