Kemi Badenoch: ‘I Rejected God for Answering My Trivial Prayers’

United Kingdom Conservative Party leader Kemi Badenoch has revealed she lost faith in God after questioning why her “trivial” prayers were answered while those of a woman in captivity for over two decades went unanswered.

Speaking in a BBC interview on Thursday, Mrs Badenoch recalled being deeply affected by the story of Josef Fritzl, the Austrian man who imprisoned his daughter in a basement for 24 years.

“I couldn’t stop reading this story. She prayed every day to be rescued. Meanwhile, I was praying for good grades, for my hair to grow longer, or for a bus to arrive on time – and those prayers were answered,” Badenoch said. “It made me wonder why her desperate prayers weren’t answered. It felt like someone blew out a candle.”

The 45-year-old politician explained that the experience led her to “reject God” but not Christianity, describing herself as a “cultural Christian.”

In the interview, she also recounted reporting a classmate for cheating during an exam but receiving no recognition for her actions.

Her recent statement that she no longer identifies as Nigerian has sparked mixed reactions among Nigerians.
