Two members of the House of Representatives have resigned from their political parties amid internal leadership crises.

Amos Daniel, representing Jemaa/Sanga Federal Constituency in Kaduna State, has officially defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC). The move was announced by the Speaker of the House, Tajudeen Abbas, in a letter read on the floor of the lower legislative chamber on Wednesday.

Daniel cited the ongoing leadership struggle within the PDP as the reason for his defection. His departure further reduces the number of PDP members in the National Assembly, highlighting the party’s continued internal challenges that have prompted defections to the APC.

Similarly, Sagiri Koki, lawmaker for Kano Municipal Federal Constituency, has quit the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP). In a letter dated November 11 addressed to the chairman of Zaitawa Ward, Kano State, Koki explained that persistent leadership conflicts at the national level made it difficult for him to serve his constituents effectively.

Unlike Daniel’s defection, Koki’s exit is yet to be formally announced on the floor of the House of Representatives.

The developments underscore the growing strain within opposition parties and signal potential shifts in the political landscape ahead of future elections.
