Human rights lawyer and activist, Dele Farotimi, has berated the Federal Government over what he described as its deliberate mischaracterisation of the ongoing killings across parts of Nigeria.

Speaking during an interview on Channels Television on Friday, monitored by Patriotic Insights News,Farotimi insisted that the violence being witnessed in several communities is nothing short of genocide.

According to him, referring to the atrocities as “farmer-herder clashes” amounts to a grave distortion of reality and an insult to the victims.

“You are calling genocide farmers-herders clash — what nonsense! How can a farmer who owns nothing be clashing with someone armed with AK-47s, Kalashnikovs, and M-16 rifles? Yet government officials still peddle that idiocy,” Farotimi fumed.

The activist accused the authorities of turning a blind eye to widespread killings and concealing the truth under misleading narratives meant to pacify public outrage.

Farotimi noted that international attention, including recent comments allegedly made by former US President Donald Trump, has further exposed the government’s failure to confront the crisis with honesty and urgency.

He lamented that the denial by officials has only deepened citizens’ distrust while painting Nigeria as a nation unwilling to protect its own people.

His remarks come amid renewed global concern over rising insecurity and allegations of religiously motivated attacks in the country.
