Osun 2026: Silence in PDP camp as APC, ADC roll out primary timetables

With less than a year to the Osun governorship poll, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is yet to unveil its timetable for the primary election, even as the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and the All Progressives Congress (APC) have commenced internal preparations.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has fixed the governorship election for August 8, 2026. Party primaries are expected to hold between November and December 2025.

Earlier in October, the APC announced that its primary will take place on December 13. The party pegged its nomination and expression of interest forms at N50 million.

A statement signed by the National Organising Secretary, Sulaiman Argungu, said membership register update will run from October 20 to 31, 2025. Only members with updated records and dues up to February 2025 will be eligible to participate.

Similarly, the ADC on Monday announced December 12 as the date for its primary election. In a notice signed by its organising secretary, Prince Chinedu Idigo, the party said membership revalidation will run between November 1 and 25, while screening of aspirants is slated for November 28. Delegates’ election will hold between December 4 and 5.

But the PDP — widely expected to field incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke — has maintained silence on its timetable. Party sources link the delay to the upcoming national convention scheduled for November 15–16.

Observers fear the convention could worsen internal cracks, as loyalists of the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, have reportedly distanced themselves from the exercise.

Insiders say the timetable for the PDP’s primary will likely be released after the convention.
