President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Monday received the newly-appointed Service Chiefs at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, in what the Presidency described as a further step to reinforce the nation’s security architecture.

The top military officers — led by Chief of Defence Staff, Lt-Gen. Olufemi Oluyede — arrived the forecourt of the Villa at about 4:00pm.

Others in attendance were Chief of Army Staff, Maj-Gen. W. Shaibu; Chief of Naval Staff, Rear Admiral I. Abbas; Chief of Air Staff, Air Vice Marshal S.K. Aneke; and Chief of Defence Intelligence, Maj-Gen. E.A.P. Undiendeye.

The visit comes days after President Tinubu approved sweeping changes in the military hierarchy on Friday, October 24, 2025.

Announcing the shake-up, the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Public Communication, Sunday Dare, said the decision was taken “to strengthen the national security architecture.”

He confirmed that General Oluyede replaces General Christopher Musa as Chief of Defence Staff, with Major-General Shaibu, AVM Aneke and Rear Admiral Abbas taking charge of the Army, Air Force and Navy respectively, while Maj-Gen. Undiendeye retains his position as Chief of Defence Intelligence.

The President lauded the outgoing officers for “patriotic service and dedicated leadership,” and charged the new security helmsmen to justify the confidence reposed in them by demonstrating professionalism, vigilance and comradeship in the discharge of their duties.
