The Catholic Diocese of Oyo is in mourning following the death of Bishop Emeritus, Most Rev. Julius Adelakun, who passed away on Friday at the age of 91.

A statement by the Bishop of Oyo Catholic Archdiocese, Most Rev. Emmanuel Badejo, described Adelakun as a man whose life “was full and impactful, touching multitudes.”

Adelakun led the Diocese of Oyo as Bishop for 36 years, from April 13, 1973, until his retirement on November 4, 2009. Badejo said funeral arrangements would be announced in due course and urged the faithful to continue praying for the repose of his soul.

“He shepherded the Diocese of Oyo with unwavering dedication for decades, leaving behind a remarkable legacy of service to God, the Church, and humanity,” Badejo added.

Born on November 4, 1934, Julius Adelakun was ordained a Catholic priest on June 27, 1965, before his episcopal ordination on February 11, 1973.
