Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has imposed a 16-hour curfew in 10 local government areas bordering the Old Oyo National Park following growing security concerns, including the abduction of students and teachers in the area.

The curfew was announced in a statement issued on Tuesday by the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Musibau Babatunde, and made available through the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Dr. Sulaimon Olanrewaju.

According to the statement, the restriction will take effect from Wednesday, June 24, 2026, running daily from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 a.m. for an initial period of 48 hours.

The affected local government areas are:

Oriire (Ikoyi-Ile)

Orelope (Igboho)

Irepo (Kisi)

Saki West (Saki)

Saki East (Ago-Amodu)

Atisbo (Tede/Ago-Are)

Itesiwaju (Otu)

Iseyin (Iseyin)

Olorunsogo (Igbeti)

Atiba (Offa-Meta, Oyo)

The decision comes amid concerns over insecurity around the Old Oyo National Park, which authorities believe is being used as a hideout by armed groups.

Last month, 39 students and seven teachers were reportedly abducted in communities within Oriire Local Government Area, with reports indicating that the victims may be held within forested areas around the park.

The state government said the curfew is part of efforts to strengthen security operations and facilitate the rescue of the abducted victims.
