The House of Representatives has summoned the nation’s service chiefs and the National Security Adviser (NSA), Nuhu Ribadu, to appear before the lawmakers over the worsening security situation across the country.

The resolution was passed during plenary on Tuesday following the adoption of a motion sponsored by the member representing Gummi/Bukkuyum Federal Constituency of Zamfara State, Sulaiman Gumi.

The lawmakers expressed concern over the increasing incidents of banditry, terrorism, kidnapping and other violent crimes affecting several parts of Nigeria.

The summons comes amid growing public concern over persistent attacks by armed groups, which have resulted in the loss of lives, destruction of property and the abduction of numerous citizens.

In recent months, bandits and terrorists have continued to launch attacks on communities, schools and highways, particularly in parts of the North-West, North-East and North-Central regions.

The House is expected to engage the security chiefs and the NSA on the current security challenges, ongoing operations and measures being implemented to address the situation.

The development also comes amid increasing calls from some quarters for President Bola Tinubu to review the country’s security leadership and adopt new strategies to tackle insecurity.
