Ooni Urges Traditional Rulers to Strengthen Role in Tackling Insecurity

The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, has called on traditional rulers across Yorubaland to strengthen collaboration and support efforts aimed at addressing insecurity in their communities.

The monarch made the call during the grand finale of the 2026 Ifa Festival, expressing concern over the security challenges facing parts of the country and stressing the importance of traditional institutions in promoting peace and stability.

According to a statement issued by his spokesperson, Moses Olafare on Sunday, the Ooni urged traditional rulers to work closely with government authorities, security agencies, and community stakeholders to combat criminal activities and foster social cohesion.

He noted that insecurity requires a collective response and commended the efforts of the Federal Government to improve security nationwide. The monarch also offered prayers for the safe return of schoolchildren and teachers reportedly abducted in separate incidents in Oyo and Borno states, expressing hope that they would soon reunite with their families.
