Tinubu wins APC presidential primary, defeats Osifo
President Bola Tinubu has secured the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential ticket for the 2027 general election after defeating his challenger, Stanley Osifo, in the party’s nationwide primary election.
Party officials said Tinubu recorded victories across states and wards nationwide in an exercise party leaders described as a vote of confidence in his administration.
Collated figures released by the party showed Tinubu polling millions of votes, while Osifo recorded votes in only a few states, including Abia, Bayelsa and Edo.
The exercise, conducted across the country’s wards, drew participation from party members, governors, ministers, lawmakers and other APC stakeholders.
Tinubu voted at Ikoyi-Obalende Ward L2 in Lagos alongside First Lady Oluremi Tinubu.
Speaking after voting, the President described the exercise as a reflection of internal democracy within the ruling party.
“This is a demonstration of internal democracy, and it has been going on very well according to plan. This is grassroots politics where every member of the party has the right to participate,” Tinubu said.
“It shows that we have internal democracy and it’s peaceful and well organised.”
The President also commended APC governors and party leaders for supervising the process across states.
National APC Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, who voted in Plateau State, described the primary as a critical democratic exercise.
“The calm and coordinated atmosphere witnessed here reflects the commitment of party faithful to internal democracy and credible electoral processes,” he said.
Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, said the turnout reflected continued support for Tinubu’s administration despite economic challenges.
Across several states, governors and party officials announced results showing overwhelming support for the President.
In Borno State, Governor Babagana Zulum said Tinubu secured all votes cast in Mafa Ward.
In Kebbi State, Governor Nasir Idris described the turnout as evidence of confidence in the President’s leadership.
Osun State APC leaders announced Tinubu secured 100,880 votes, while Stanley Osifo recorded none.
Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani said the outcome across the state’s political wards reflected party unity and support for Tinubu.
In Abia State, Tinubu polled 161,005 votes, while Osifo secured 1,007 votes.
Delta State recorded 407,646 votes for Tinubu, while Bayelsa State delivered 277,192 votes for the President against Osifo’s five votes.
Rivers State officials also announced Tinubu secured all votes cast in the state’s APC primary exercise.
Party leaders said the outcome positions the APC ahead of preparations for the 2027 general election.
