Aston Villa beat Freiburg 3-0 to win Europa League title
Aston Villa have been crowned UEFA Europa League champions after defeating Freiburg 3-0 in Wednesday night’s final in Istanbul.
The Premier League side dominated proceedings from the opening stages and took control of the match before halftime.
Unai Emery’s side headed into the break with a two-goal advantage after strikes from Youri Tielemans and Emi Buendia.
Villa extended their lead in the second half when Morgan Rogers tapped home the third goal to seal victory and secure the club’s Europa League triumph.
The title marks another milestone for manager Unai Emery, who extended his record as the most successful coach in Europa League history with a fifth triumph in the competition.
Emery previously won the tournament three times with Sevilla and once with Villarreal.
Villa’s victory could also have implications for England’s Champions League representation next season, with the Premier League potentially securing six places depending on league outcomes.
