Insecurity: Nigerians’ Safety More Important Than 2027 Politics — Najeem Salaam

The governorship candidate of the African Democratic Congress, , has condemned the gruesome killing of a teacher abducted by suspected bandits in Oyo State, declaring that the protection of lives and property must take precedence over political activities ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Salaam, in a statement obtained by Patriotic Insights News in Osogbo on Tuesday, described the beheading of Mr Michael Oyedokun as barbaric, painful and a disturbing indication of the worsening security situation in the country.

The former Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly said the abduction of teachers and students from schools in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State reflects the growing audacity of criminal elements across the nation.

According to him, “The continuous killing and abduction of innocent Nigerians have become unacceptable. The lives of Nigerians are more important than 2027 politicking. Governance should focus on protecting citizens, securing communities and restoring confidence in the nation’s security architecture.”

Salaam called on the Federal Government and security agencies to urgently address the escalating wave of insecurity, insisting that decisive action must be taken to safeguard lives and property across the country.

He further urged security operatives to intensify efforts towards the rescue of the remaining abductees, stressing that every available strategy and resource should be deployed to ensure their safe return.

The ADC candidate said the tragic incident should serve as a wake-up call for leaders at all levels to treat insecurity as a national emergency requiring sincere commitment and urgent intervention.

He also sympathised with the family of the slain teacher, his colleagues, students and the people of Oyo State over the unfortunate development.

Recall that armed bandits had on Friday attacked three schools in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State, abducting about 30 students and teachers, while two persons were reportedly killed during the invasion.

The affected schools include Community Grammar School, Baptist Nursery and Primary School, and L.A. Primary School.
