BREAKING: Adelabu’s supporters protest at APC secretariat, demand direct primary
Supporters of former Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, on Thursday staged a protest at the All Progressives Congress (APC) secretariat in Oyo State, demanding the adoption of direct primaries for the party’s governorship ticket ahead of the 2027 election.
The protesters insisted that all registered party members should be allowed to participate in the selection process, amid growing tensions over the emergence of a consensus candidate within the party.
The development comes weeks after Adelabu resigned as Minister of Power to pursue his governorship ambition in Oyo State.
He formally declared his intention to contest the 2027 governorship election on May 12, 2026.
The protest also followed the endorsement of Senator Sharafadeen Alli as the APC’s consensus governorship candidate by party leaders and stakeholders in the state.
Alli’s adoption was reaffirmed during a stakeholders’ meeting held on Wednesday at the Emeritus Professor Theophilus Ogunlesi Hall, University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan.
