Opposition political parties in Nigeria have agreed to present a single presidential candidate for the 2027 general election, in a move aimed at strengthening their chances against the ruling party.

The decision was reached on Saturday at a national summit of opposition leaders held in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.

Top political figures at the meeting included former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi, and former Kano State Governor Rabiu Kwankwaso, among others.

Also in attendance were officials of a faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) aligned with Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde.

The resolution is seen as a major outcome of the summit, which brought together leaders across multiple opposition platforms to explore strategies for collaboration ahead of the next general election.
