A Kaduna State High Court on Tuesday adjourned the hearing of the bail application filed by former Governor of Kaduna State, Mallam Nasir el-Rufai, to the first week of June 2026.

The presiding judge, Justice Darius Khobo, announced the adjournment during proceedings, effectively shifting a decision on the bail request to a later date.

El-Rufai was present in court on Tuesday morning and was accompanied by operatives of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) as well as the Department of State Services (DSS).

Speaking with journalists after the session, counsel to the former governor, Ukpon Akpan, criticised the repeated adjournments, describing them as unnecessary and alleging political undertones.

On April 14, the court had earlier adjourned ruling on the bail application to April 21, before the latest postponement.

El-Rufai was arraigned on April 13 by the ICPC on an amended nine-count charge bordering on alleged fraud and abuse of office. The anti-graft agency had previously dropped a co-defendant, Amadu Sule, from the amended charges.

In a separate case at the Federal High Court in Kaduna, the former governor was granted bail in the sum of N200 million with two sureties.

He has remained in ICPC custody since February 19, following his initial detention by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), before later being transferred. He was briefly released on compassionate grounds on March 27 following the death of his mother.
