The Federal Government of Nigeria has approved the rerouting of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway to pass through Ogoniland in honour of the late Mpigi Barinada Barry.

Minister of Works, Dave Umahi, disclosed this during a Night of Tribute held in Abuja, where he described the late lawmaker’s death as a significant loss to the nation.

Umahi highlighted Mpigi’s contributions to national development, noting his role in facilitating key infrastructure projects across several states, including Lagos, Ogun, Sokoto, Kebbi, and Kano.

He also praised the late senator’s integrity and commitment, describing him as a bridge-builder who played a vital role in resolving challenges on major road projects such as the Bodo-Bonny Road and the Eleme-Onne section of the East-West Road in Rivers State.

According to the minister, the decision to reroute the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway was approved by President Bola Tinubu as a tribute to Mpigi’s legacy and service to the country.

Umahi assured the family of the deceased of continued government support and pledged to sustain the late senator’s developmental vision.

He also urged Nigerians to draw inspiration from Mpigi’s legacy of integrity, patriotism, and public service.
