Suspected Boko Haram terrorists have attacked Awapul community in Chibok Local Government Area of Borno State, destroying houses and shops.

The attack, which occurred around 1:30 a.m. on Sunday, saw the assailants storm the village in large numbers, shooting sporadically and setting properties ablaze.

Confirming the incident, the spokesperson of the Borno State Police Command, ASP Nahum Daso, said no lives were lost during the attack.

“There was an attack this morning around 1:30 a.m. in Chibok Local Government, in a village called Awapul. The attack was carried out by unknown men suspected to be Boko Haram. No casualties. It was a destruction of properties,” he said.

Residents said the attackers arrived on motorcycles and operated for over an hour, burning homes and small businesses before fleeing.

A resident, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said several affected residents have fled to Chibok town for safety.

“They burned down houses and small shops. Some owners have gone to Chibok main town to take refuge,” the source said, calling on the government to strengthen security in the area.

The attack comes amid renewed violence in parts of Borno State, less than 24 hours after terrorists struck an Internally Displaced Persons camp in Damasak and the Nganzai Divisional Police Headquarters, leaving casualties and extensive damage.
