Former Senate President, Bukola Saraki, has dismissed speculations about a possible presidential bid in 2027, stating that it is only fair to allow the South complete its eight-year tenure.

Saraki made the clarification on Thursday while speaking during an interview on Politics Today, a Channels Television programme.

The former Kwara State governor said his position aligns with the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) internal discussions on zoning ahead of the next general elections.

“I think it is only fair to allow the South to complete its eight years. I was one of those that supported that PDP should zone the presidency to the South in 2027,” he said.

He explained that during party deliberations on zoning, he supported the decision to allocate the presidential ticket to the southern region and would abide by that resolution.

“Remember, in 2023 the final decision of the party was that candidates could come from anywhere. But in the meeting we held about the 2027 election, we said the presidency should come from the South, and I abide by that,” Saraki stated.

The former Senate President added that his stance effectively rules out any intention to contest the presidency in the next election cycle.
