Troops arrest suspected Boko Haram fuel suppliers in Yobe

Troops of Operation Hadin Kai have arrested several suspects linked to the supply of fuel to Boko Haram in Yobe State.

The operation was carried out in Yusufari Local Government Area by troops of the 241 Battalion deployed at a Forward Operating Base in Jajimaji.

According to security sources, the troops, while on night patrol, intercepted a vehicle loaded with Premium Motor Spirit, PMS, at a filling station in the Yusuf Abah area.

The suspects reportedly attempted to flee on sighting the troops, prompting a pursuit. One vehicle was intercepted, while another escaped.

A search of the vehicle led to the discovery of seven sacks of PMS, each containing about 77 litres.

Four suspects were arrested at the scene, including the driver, Mohammed Idi, and a motor boy, Mero Umra, as well as the filling station manager, Hasan Liman, and a security guard, Jibril Audu.

Troops also recovered about 1.6 million naira in cash, believed to be linked to the fuel supply operation.

The suspects and recovered items are currently in custody as investigations continue.
