The Soun of Ogbomoso, Oba Ghandi Afolabi Olaoye (Orumogege III), has indefinitely suspended former Senator Hamzat Ayoade Adeseun from the prestigious chieftaincy title of Mayegun of Ogbomosoland.

The palace disclosed the decision in a letter dated March 23, 2026, signed by Toyin Ajamu, the Palace Secretary. The letter cited the senator’s “recent and continued conduct,” which it said had become a source of concern and embarrassment to the traditional institution.

According to the palace, Adeseun’s actions, both publicly and privately, reflected “sustained acts of insubordination, willful disregard, and persistent disrespect” toward the palace and the revered stool of the Soun. The monarch described these actions as falling short of the dignity and responsibility expected of a holder of the Mayegun title.

The letter read in part: “It is with deep regret, yet a firm sense of royal duty, that His Imperial Majesty has taken cognisance of your sustained acts of insubordination and disrespect toward the palace and the sacred institution it represents.”

As a result, the former senator is barred from parading himself as Mayegun in any public or official capacity, including media appearances, social media, events, or correspondence, until further notice from the palace.

At the time of filing this report, Adeseun had not reacted to the suspension.
