Nigeria’s Minister of Defence, Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, on Wednesday met with the country’s service chiefs in Abuja as concerns mount over worsening insecurity in several parts of the country.

Speaking after the meeting at the Ministry of Defence Headquarters, the minister assured Nigerians that the military remains committed to protecting lives and property.

According to him, ongoing operations across the country have inflicted heavier losses on terrorist groups despite casualties recorded among government troops.

“Our troops are working tirelessly to protect Nigerians. While we have had some casualties, the terrorists are taking the bigger hit,” he said.

Badaru also warned against the spread of misinformation on social media, saying false narratives could undermine security operations and public confidence.

He urged citizens to support security agencies by providing timely information on suspicious activities within their communities.

“This is a challenge for all Nigerians, not just the Armed Forces,” he added.

The defence minister further cautioned that anyone providing logistics, intelligence, or other forms of support to terrorists would face the same consequences as the insurgents.

He thanked President Bola Tinubu, the National Assembly, and state governors for their continued support for the armed forces, expressing confidence that Nigeria would eventually overcome its security challenges.
