Tinubu Assigns Fani-Kayode to Germany, Omokri to Mexico as Nigeria Names 65 Envoys

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the posting of 65 ambassadors-designate and high commissioners to Nigerian diplomatic missions across the world, including the United Nations.

Among the prominent appointees are former Aviation Minister Femi Fani-Kayode, who has been posted to Germany, and presidential aide Reno Omokri, who will serve as Nigeria’s ambassador to Mexico.

A statement issued by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, disclosed that the list comprises 34 non-career ambassadors and 31 career diplomats assigned to various countries.

According to the statement, former Minister of Interior and ex-Katsina State governor, Abdulrahman Dambazau, has been posted to Beijing, China, while businessman and senator, Jimoh Ibrahim, will serve as Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations.

Other notable postings include former Senator Ita Enang to South Africa, former Abia State governor Okezie Ikpeazu to Spain, and former Minister of Health Isaac Adewole to Canada.

Also on the list is former Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency, Ayodele Oke, who has been posted to France, while Aminu Dalhatu has been designated as Nigeria’s High Commissioner to the United Kingdom.

Additional non-career appointments include Fatima Ajimobi to Austria, Mrs Lola Akande to Sweden, Joe-Kyari Okocha, SAN, to Ireland, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas to the Philippines, and Paul Adikwu to the Vatican City.

Others include Nkechi Linda Ufochukwu to Israel, Mahmud Yakubu to Qatar, Yakubu Gambo to Saudi Arabia, Senator Nora Ladi Daduut to South Korea, and Dr Kulu Haruna Abubakar to Tunisia.

In the same vein, career diplomats were also assigned to several countries. Ambassador Mohammed Mahmud Lele was posted to Algeria, Ambassador Shehu Barde to Ghana, and Ambassador Aminu Nasir to Ethiopia.

Similarly, Ambassador Ibrahim Danlami will serve in Kenya, Ambassador Ayeni Adebayo in Belgium, and Ambassador Akande Wahab in Switzerland.

Other career postings include Ambassador Nwabiola Ezenwa to Côte d’Ivoire, Besto Maimuna Ibrahim to Niger Republic, Ahmed Mohammed Monguno to Egypt, Ambassador Jane Adams to Jamaica, and Ambassador Clark-Omeru Alexandra to Zambia.

The statement added that the Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs has already received agrément from the United Kingdom for High Commissioner-designate Aminu Dalhatu and from France for Ambassador Ayodele Oke.

Onanuga explained that requests for agrément for the remaining 62 envoys had been transmitted to their respective host countries in line with diplomatic protocol.

Agrément is the formal approval granted by a receiving country for a diplomat nominated by another country before the envoy can officially assume duty.

President Tinubu has also directed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to commence an induction programme for the ambassadors-designate ahead of their deployment.

The Senate confirmed the 65 nominees in December 2025 after screening them through its Committee on Foreign Affairs.

Nigeria maintains diplomatic missions in more than 100 countries, with embassies, high commissions and consulates representing the country’s interests in bilateral and multilateral relations.

The latest appointments mark the first major ambassadorial postings since 2017 during the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari.
